Starting in Mammoth, Wyoming (part of Yellowstone National Park), in June 1998, the hike got far as Jasper, Alberta in October 1998, racing winter down off the mountains.

The second leg began again in March 1999 with a ski section from Jasper, Alberta to Monkman Provincial Park in British Columbia, a difficult traverse that has not been done before. The trek continues in June and will end in Watson Lake, Yukon in September 1999, hopefully before the snow flies.
